Before & After: Rear-End Repair on 2023 Utility Dry Van
Legacy Carriers LLC – McKinney, TX
When this 2023 Utility 4000D-X dry van rolled into our shop earlier this summer, it had seen better days. The rear-end structure had taken a hit: the roadside corner post was twisted, the buckplate was bent, and the roadside swing door was barely hanging on. There was also damage to the ICC bumper, slider rails, and several crossmembers.
One of our most thorough techs, Nelson Nuñez, took on the project solo and got straight to work. He started by replacing the damaged corner post and installing a new composite door on the roadside. New hinge butts were then welded in to secure the swing door properly. The buckplate was replaced, and new keepers were installed to ensure the doors closed tightly.
Slider rails on both sides were swapped out, and we reinforced the area by replacing three crossmembers above them. The threshold plate had shifted from the impact, so Nelson straightened and re-secured it. He also re-attached the roadside bottom rail, which had separated near the rear.
The final touches included a full ICC bumper assembly, and two additional rear crossmembers just ahead of the buckplate. With everything squared up and welded tight, this trailer was ready to get back on the road.
